What have you learned from your friends? There was a big, friendly group of enthusiastic storytime attendees today. What better to encourage storytime togetherness than some morning stretches and shouts, some animal sounds, and a fun little book about friendship by celebrated children’s author and illustrator Taro Gomi?
Friendship can be a pretty big topic for very young readers, but Gomi’s book is a great introduction to the idea. Very little ones can focus on the bright illustrations, pointing out the various animals and acting out the various actions (running, jumping, climbing, etc.). When reading with older kids, make sure to ask them questions about the friendship in their lives. Who are their friends? What do they learn from them? What do they teach them?
And if your kids love looking at Taro Gomi’s illustrations as much as we all did, maybe they can take their appreciation to the next step by learning how to draw with Gomi’s assistance. Check out these great doodle-encouraging activity books from the author himself:
Storytime is every Monday at 10 am and is intended for all ages.
