Play it Forward!

Image

The Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library is pleased to again partner with Play It Forward Pittsburgh as a drop-off site for its holiday toy drive this year.  From December 1 through December 13, you can bring your gently used toys to the PTLL and leave them in the back closet.  If your donation does not fit in one of the large labeled bins, please make sure it is *clearly* marked for ‘Play It Forward‘.  On Saturday, December 14th, families in need will be able to “shop” among the donated items for their children at the Play It Forward shopping location.  What an easy way to clear out some of our own clutter while making the holidays brighter for other families!

Play It Forward will accept new or gently used items for children ages 0 – 16.  This includes: toys, games, books, stuffed animals, bikes, movies (vhs and dvd), electronics (in working order), and sports equipment.  At this time we are not accepting clothes.  We are also accepting ziploc bags (especially large sizes) for organizing toys with pieces or dividing large amounts into multiple sets.

Please remember to organize and bag your toys together so they are ready to go and the pieces don’t get separated. Try to give us complete sets and toys in good (and clean) condition so they’re ready to go to a new home.  If toys require batteries, please take a moment to test the toys and make sure they are functional.

A Great Big PTLL Thank You!

May is the month where like to take time to let our volunteers know how much they mean to the PTLL.  While it’s only a month long celebration, we, without a doubt, know that all year long that our volunteers are the reason that we’ve been able to stay open for almost 40 years.  In addition to our volunteers, we’re incredibly thankful for the local organizations who donated to our celebration.  Please take a moment to check out these companies and organizations who were so generous to us.

From December 3 through December 14, we’ll be collecting toys for the Marine’s Toys for Tots drive.  All toys donated must be new and unwrapped and can be placed in the bin at the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library.  Help bring a smile to a child’s face this holiday!

The Presidential Elections are over…

but now the real elections at the PTLL can begin!  We’re seeking reviews of your family’s favorite toys from our collection!

Just print off the document below or pick one up at PTLL and drop it off for our Toy Coordinator starting next Monday.  We want to know what you love–whether it’s one of our floor toys or one from our lending collection!

Additionally, we’re working on building our collection for your older school aged siblings (ages 6+) and we’re ready to do some give our checkbook some exercise to buy some new items!  If you have any ideas to add to our wish list, please email Katy at toys@pghtoys.org.

Have a dinosaur, witch or lion hiding in your closet? Bring your old costumes in for the PTLL’s First Annual Costume Swap!

Here’s how it works: Bring a gently used costume to swap. Add it to the clothing rack by the front door.  Choose one for free. Don’t have a costume to swap? No problem! You can buy one from the rack for a $5 donation to the library.  The swap begins tomorrow morning (Saturday, October 20th, and goes until the toy library closes on October 31st. Stop in any time the library is open!
